Did you know that it takes a MINIMUM of 21 days of repetitive action to start forming a habit?

According to Huffington Post, Phillippa Lally is a health psychology researcher at University College London. In a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, Lally and her research team decided to figure out just how long it actually takes to form a habit.

How Long it Really Takes to Build a New Habit — The answer?

On average, it takes more than two months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact. And how long it takes a new habit to form can vary widely depending on the behavior, the person, and the circumstances. Based on Lally’s scientific study, it will probably take you anywhere from two months to eight months to build a new behavior into your life — not 21 days.

To achieve healthier habits and living, you’ll need to make lasting lifestyle changes, and set realistic (S.M.A.R.T.) goals. These changes will include eating a healthy diet, incorporating exercise or activity into your daily routine, getting enough sleep, stress reduction, etc.

Perhaps your ultimate goal is to lose some weight, to gain weight, and/or to gain muscle. Successful and sustainable weight management starts with small incremental consistent changes that build over time. When you can get into a consistent routine, then you will start seeing changes!
